San Bartolo, Peru

Posted by: | Posted on: October 9, 2018

A beautiful seaside resort — San Bartolo — can be found south of Lima. Straight on the Pacific Ocean, located at about km 52 of the Pan Americana, San Bartolo is known for its pristine waters, small bays with delightful beaches and waves that are perfect and are ideal for surfers. With sunshine nearly 8 months a year and unsullied air throughout the year, this is what San Bartolo offers, a dry and healthy climate.

All kinds of amenities which are classic for a seaside resort is what San Bartolo offers its tourists. Enjoy the following at San Bartolo: hotel accommodations and pools offered by hostels, facilities specializing in sports and conference rooms, enticing restaurants offering distinctive food of the Peruvian coastal region, nightly, fascinating landscape and great places especially for surfers and everyday people who love water sports.

San Bartolo places to visit and attractions

Especially for anybody who adores water sports, San Bartolo is a marvelous and favored seaside resort that has a lot to offer. Especially in the summer month, breathtaking places for surfing fans like “El Peñascal” in the north with great waves and “La Ribera Sur” with rocks and breakwaters make San Bartolo a nice town to visit. Next, to surfing, San Bartolo is a perfect location to do other water activities like boating, water skiing, swift sailing, fishing,  or just plain swimming –but be prepared for the cold water — and or just get tan at the beach. If salt water isn’t your thing, most accommodations and hostels have swimming pools and sporting facilities. For the hungry stomach, restaurants here offer prominent Peruvian coastal food.

The people of San Bartolo are very passionate, and they surely love to celebrate. You can even join with them if you are there like during “San Pedro and San Pablo” on the 29th of June.

There is also a rock formation molded by the capability of the waves where the waters of the Pacific Ocean splash into a big cave, breaking and splitting up in thousands of small droplets, it’s a must to not miss the famous “Bufadero.”

A Little Bit About Me

Posted by: | Posted on: February 4, 2018

Californication. Scar Tissue. Rock. Punk. Rap. Funk. The Red Hot Chili Peppers embedded almost every type of musical genre into their own music, making them one of the most influential bands in history.

Under the bridge in downtown Los Angeles, CA lead singer Anthony Kiedis would gain experience which would later transcend the popular music of the 1990’s and ultimately, his musical career.

The founding members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers graduated from Fairfax High in 1980. Members and best friends from the age of 15, Anthony Kiedis – singer, Michael Flea Balazary – bassist, and Hillel Slovak – guitarist and Jack Irons – drummer ran the Hollywood streets as drug-crazed yet musically-driven teenagers. For many years they lived on the streets or artisan galleries where only musicians would be able to live part-time in LA area. During the day they each held dead-end jobs such as working in an animal shelter or a runner for a label executive. But at night they would go to the hottest clubs and play their hearts out. In late ’83, a stunt that sky-rocketed them into the limelight took place at the Kit Kat Club, a local strip club in Hollywood.

At the time they were discovered, they had a setlist of about 6 songs. Flea brought in his punk and jazz influences with his bass playing, developing what is now known as slapping.

Anthony often listened to bands such as grandmaster flash and James Brown. He would jump on stage and rap a poem he had written on the spot.

Hillel Slovak first introduced his bandmates to rock music when they were in high school. He often played Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and what would become one of their greatest influences, Jimi Hendrix. Hillel’s guitar playing was a crunch, distorted, funky sound which worked simultaneously with Flea’s funky, punky, slap melodies.

As a band, they were never tighter. Constant practicing, rehearsals, promoting themselves by themselves. Yet, personal demons came into play when drugs and alcohol were in the mix. When they started recording their self-titled album, the Peppers were highly influenced by their surroundings. They would spend all day getting high, spend all night on stage and be getting high afterward. After constant binging, they would often miss studio time and upset their manager and producers. Anthony and Hillel were sunken deeply into heroin addiction by the time their second album, Freaky Styley was released in 1985. Now in relation to the other groups that were popular in the mid-80’s, such as Queen, Journey, Motley Crue, the Red Hot Chili Peppers did not become an instant commercial success because of their style of music.

When the band went on tour to support Freaky Styley, Hillel’s health began to deteriorate from his addiction. He became physically and mentally weak, often unable to play some of the European shows, prompting the band to briefly kick him out and be replaced.

Upon returning to LA from the tour, Slovak sunk into a deep depression and reverted back to drugs, this time far worse than before. on June 25th, 1988, police found 26-year-old Hillel Slovak dead in his apartment due to a heroin overdose.

Although his best friend died, Anthony did not stop using drugs.

Anthony and Flea mourned the loss of their best friend by continuing to make music, stating that it’s what Hillel built,”the architect”. Jack Irons decided to leave the band.

After about a year of searching for a new guitarist and drummer, Flea and Anthony came upon John Frusciante, a huge fan and a virtuoso on guitar, and Chad Smith, who “ate drums for breakfast”. Together, this group created a funky, melodic explosion that would turn into 1989’s Mother’s Milk album. On this album, the Pepper’s covered Stevie Wonder’s song, Higher Ground, which would be named the second greatest cover ever. It went on to be featured in shows/movies such as Walking Tall, The Longest Yard, The Karate Kid, and an episode on Fresh Prince.

This album helped them record their next album, 1991’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik which would be a huge changeup. Whereas before, the songs were fast-paced, Blood Sugar was more melodic and with more depth, often covering drug-addiction, love, and loss. The album was produced my legendary producer Rick Rubin, who worked with bands such as Slipknot, Beastie Boys, and even more recently Lady Gaga and Eminem.

Once the band went on tour to promote the new album, John Frusciante grew distant and did not appreciate the fame or notoriety they were gaining. He left the band in 92’, leaving the rest of the band stranded in Japan without a guitarist. The other members concluded the tour in late 92,

while John followed the footsteps of his predecessor, often hauled up in his house using drugs and painting.

While he was out of the band for six years succumbing to his addictions, the band released one album with new guitarist Dave Navarro, from Janes Addiction. One Hot Minute did not sell as well as Blood Sugar or Mother’s Milk.

When John entered rehab and joined Red Hot Chili Peppers again, they released their most commercially successful album to date, Californication, with over 15 million albums sold. From there on, the Red Hot Chili Peppers would go on to create four more successful albums, the most recent being with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer.

With ten studio albums, one live album, forty-four music videos, numerous stints in rehab, six Grammy’s and over 80 million albums sold worldwide, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have influenced countless artists and countless audiences. Since December 2000, the band has been clean of all drugs and alcohol. Through the 37 years of perseverance, hard work, and love of music, the Red Hot Chili Peppers will continue to be one of the most influential bands in history.

Read a Book

Posted by: | Posted on: January 1, 2018

Let’s talk leisure. Depending on where you live and what your job is you might have little time. Cities like Washington, DC, Seattle, and NYC have known as all work and no play cities. Now, compare this to a place like South Carolina to Iowa. Life goes by at a slower pace.

Often times, people get tired of their situation. Someone with a fast life might want it to go by slower. Someone with a slower paced like might want some action. In my opinion, however, there should be some type of balance between the two. For this writing, I’m going to focus specifically on the person that has a busy life. After all, the point of this blog is leisure. The person in Iowa probably already has that! But, here are some tips for a person living in a busy city or with a busy life.

Slow down. You don’t have to stop. But you have to find some peace. A great way to do this is by reading. Reading takes you out of the world and into the world presented in the book. It can be a fiction or nonfiction book. I prefer fiction, at least in this part of my life. I enjoy reading about crime thrillers or fantasy stories. These stories make my imagination run wild. I like them because they take me out of the day-in and day-out of everyday life. Where can you find books?

Well, it really depends on what type of book you want. Newer books can be found in bookstores. Older books might be found in a library. I prefer the library because of two things. The first is that libraries have a large selection of books. The second is that books at the library are free! Enjoy a book this weekend.

My Trip to Norway

Posted by: | Posted on: December 24, 2017

I visited Norway in the summertime. I was able to do some sightseeing in Oslo, the capital of Norway. Most people don’t know this, but Oslo is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Rent is expensive, food is expensive, and entertainment is expensive. That being said, the city seemed quite high quality to me.

Although the meals were expensive, they were some of the tastiest meals I’ve ever eaten. I remember one time eating at a restaurant for breakfast. It had an outdoor area, with some chair and tables. It was quite cold in the morning, even though it was summertime. However, the restaurant had very nice heaters to keep its patrons warm. Small things like this were commonplace throughout Oslo. Sure, general things were a bit more pricey, but the service met the cost, and I had a great time.

Most people don’t plan on seeing a movie while on vacation. But I did that! I thought to go to a local movie theater. When I arrived, it looked like a museum inside. How wonderful! The screen was large, and there was plenty of food and drinks for hungry and thirsty movie watchers. I had a great time there.

The souvenirs were another great part of my trip to Norway. As a matter of fact, souvenirs are probably one of my favorite parts of going on vacation. I love shopping for little bits of memories. Once I get back home, I can display my souvenirs in my bedroom and on my desk. I recommend every traveler to purchase a souvenir, even if it’s not expensive! After all, what really matters is the memory of the trip. Speaking of memories, don’t forget to take a lot of photos! You can even keep a small photo in your purse or wallet to remind yourself of your travels.

Hobbies and Leisure

Posted by: | Posted on: December 16, 2017

I love hobbies. Everyone loves hobbies! That’s because everyone has a hobby or multiple hobbies. Hobbies are most often talked about in terms of what pastimes people like to do. In my opinion, I also include in that category some pastimes I would like to do even in the future. For example, I want to paint.

Bob Ross, the famous painter, is making me want to take up the brush. Ross’s videos are all on Netflix and other streaming platforms. The great part about painters like Bob Ross is that they are also teachers. We can learn from them. Bob Ross died years ago, but his teachings live on. There is an official Bob Ross website, which sells DVDs, paintbrushes, paints, and other materials. I know that one day, I will make painting my hobby. And I will model my work on Bob Ross’s techniques.

Another hobby I want to take up is gardening. I’m more interested in eating what I grow, instead of only looking at plants or flowers. However, I would probably experiment with different things. I want to grow carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, and herbs. I’m sure, once I get started, I’ll want to grow additional things.

Hobbies are part of the joy of life. It’s recommended that everyone have a healthy hobby. There are numerous websites and magazines about hobbies. One might wonder what type of hobbies are out there. Well, I would tell them to go to the library! There are books there about hobbies most people don’t even know exist. I suppose leaning the existence of a certain hobby is the first step. The second would be to choose one that the person would like to try.

If we work hard we should play hard. Get a hobby and learn to enjoy some leisure time. It’s well deserved!

My Experiences Traveling in Australia

Posted by: | Posted on: December 7, 2017

Of all the beautiful and craved places on the earth, Australia is one that’s too good to be missed. Australia is an island continent present in the southern hemisphere and it also happens to be the world’s sixth largest country. It is officially known as The Commonwealth of Australia. Here are some things I learned about the country on my visit to Australia.

Lying between the Indian and Pacific oceans, Australia is one hell of a picturesque. The Australian continent is a combination of 3 countries, namely the country of Australia by the same name, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Australia’s capital is Canberra and its largest urban area is Sydney which in other words can be said to be the most happening place in all of Australia.

Like many countries in the world, it also claims English to be its national language. The citizens of Australia are called Australians or Aussie, which is kind of cool, isn’t it? Australia currently enjoys a prestigious second position in Human Development Index globally and it didn’t come as a surprise to me that this country ranks high in quality of life, health, education, economic freedom, civil liberties and political rights. That definitely makes this country a destination well fit for both touring and living.

Australia has always been in the limelight for its friendly ties with the United States of America because both of them agree on the importance of individual freedom of citizens in ensuring a sound future for the country. Even the people of the former share certain attributes with that of the later like indulging in mirth and blissful activities and of course, cracking a chilled beer whenever you get a chance.

Yet differences exist, like Americans are more patriotic by nature whereas Australians show more commitment towards their mates. Americans believe and show confidence in their political institutions whereas Australians revert to skepticism when it comes to supporting their political leaders.

Although Australia is now a home of the happy, its history has not been a pleasant one. When the British first arrived and claimed the land, riots broke out between the British and the indigenous people who were native to Australia and this resulted in killings of thousands of the indigenous which heart was shattering.

Even now, the people of Australia find it difficult to comprehend their history, let alone celebrate it. And they can’t be blamed for any of it. Overcoming that horrifying past and still ending up as an independent powerful nation is a stunt in itself which needs to be acknowledged and appreciated.

Australia’s own natural resources and tourism have a lion’s share in strengthening its economy. It has beautiful tourist destinations like the Great Barrier Reef, the iconic Sydney Opera House, a befitting combination of the blue sky and the Blue Mountains and many more of these than meets the eye.

Since the 20th century, American popular culture has helped shape a distinctive Australian culture through their TV shows and cinemas. It is undoubtedly rich in art, especially rock art. It may not be an ideal country for many of you but its journey from a land of bloodshed to that of a beautiful one distills it from the rest of the world.

Take a Break

Posted by: | Posted on: December 7, 2017

Life can get busy at times. The busiest period is arguably when someone is in their 30s and 40s. This is due to a number of circumstances.

One is that many people tend to get married during these years. Marriage, most times, brings children. With children, a large number of responsibilities are added to the daily schedule. This is true for both the father and the mother. Extra laundry, cooking extra food, and shopping for extra things take time.

Another reason people are busiest during these years is career progression. During these years, the worker moves towards their greatest potential. That means they will be busier perhaps than when they were in their early 20s.

Take these two circumstances together. What you will find are many responsibilities and duties. There is one thing which will be difficult to find. That would be time! But how can one find time with such a busy life? The only way to find time is to make it.

I literally have to use a calendar to make time for activities and leisure. But I’m happy because it works. I know that what activity I have on any certain day. And I won’t plan anything else during that time.

I use my calendar on my iPhone. The great thing about it is that it reminds me of whatever I have planned. It chimes! I’m sure there are many calendar apps out there. However, I’m happy with the standard one that is basic with the phone.

So, if one has a busy life, the key is to simply make time. If it sounds too good to be true, know that it’s as easy as it sounds. The important part is to stick with the plan. If something comes up, and the activity needs to be moved to another day, be sure to actually move it!

Travel Preparation

Posted by: | Posted on: November 30, 2017

Congratulations! A vacationer has decided to travel to another country. They buy their tickets because of a super sale. The flight departs next week. What a euphoric feeling! Acting such is the true meaning of being an adventurer. It’s spur of the moment actions like that which makes life more fun. Because the tickets are booked, everything should be fine, right?

The next day, the vacationer tells his boss at work about the trip. His boss is fine with it because his company is very flexible. Everything is turning out great. He’s so excited as he tells his co-workers about his trip. What sites will he see? What foods will he eat? Surely, he doesn’t need to do any research because there must be ample restaurants in the city he visits.

Another day passes and the vacationer decides it’s the time to book a hotel for a few nights. He gets on his computer and does research about local hotels. This is where reality begins to set in.

Each hotel he finds is nearly fully booked. Because of this, the price for the hotel has greatly increased. He wasn’t the only one who bought those cheap tickets. But he was one of the last!

The problems continue when the vacationer looks for a nice restaurant. Like the hotels, he finds many restaurants are not currently taking reservations due to being fully booked. Luckily, with research and asking the locals, he is able to find to really great food spots.

If the traveler booked his hotel and restaurant earlier he would have had better choices. This just goes to show that proper preparation is key especially when traveling to a place far away. To learn more about travel preparation, watch the video below. You may learn some tips you’ve never thought of!
